Carl repeatedly quotes from Schopenhauer's works and has a few first editions. It is about the journalist and philosophy professor Carl, who moves with his friends into a shared flat for the elderly, where they help each other to die.

His other books are also often about Schopenhauer, including his novel Mauersegler (2015). 'A detailed panorama of the early Biedermeier period' will be unfolded in an elegant, unobtrusively historicizing language. In Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Wolfgang Schneider described the book as 'one of the most remarkable debuts of spring'. His debut novel Die Welt ist im Kopf focuses on the young Arthur Schopenhauer. Since 1993 he has been working as a freelance journalist and writer of documentaries.

Poschenrieder studied at the Jesuit University of Philosophy in Munich and attended the journalism school at Columbia University, New York.
